Kevin Martin, Not Your Typical College Admissions Counselor

Originally from Dallas, Texas, Kevin Martin, the founder of Tex Admissions® LLC, graduated Phi Beta Kappa with highest honors from the University of Texas at Austin in spring 2011. The recipient of over thirty honors, scholarships, and recognitions, the first-generation college student earned a Bachelor of Arts in Government, History, and the Humanities Honors Program.

UT-Austin honored him with its highest distinction as one of three graduates selected out of approximately 8,000 members to represent the Class of 2011 in President Powers’s Commencement speech. Kevin entered into the Liberal Arts Honors program as a freshman and completed a certificate in international conflict through the Bridging Disciplines Program. His research in conflict and genocide took him abroad to Scotland, Bosnia, and Rwanda culminating in a peer-reviewed publication.

He served as an admissions counselor for the University of Texas at Austin in the Dallas Admissions Center from June 2011 – January 2014. Kevin worked in approximately 65 DFW area high schools serving the needs of students and their families ranging from low-income, inner-city schools to the most affluent. He has experience evaluating and scoring thousands of undergraduate applications. He served on the appeals committee for students requesting reconsideration, and he exceeded expectations on his annual performance reviews.

Kevin published the widely read comprehensive UT-Austin admissions guide Your Ticket to the Forty Acres and Surviving the College Admissions Madness. He holds an ESL teaching certificate conferred with distinction from the University of Cambridge, is a PADI Professional SCUBA Diver, and is a 200-hour-RYT Yoga Instructor. Kevin was recognized as a leading docent at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science and has contributed to over 1800 microloans in support of small business owners around the world. In 2014, Kevin completed a prestigious Fulbright Fellowship teaching English in Malaysia. He has explored over 115 countries.

Kevin has conducted professional presentations domestically and abroad, and he frequently served as a keynote speaker. He occupied various leadership roles in the Texas Association for College Admissions Counseling (TACAC) and the Dallas Area Regional Network (DARN).   His insider knowledge and critical approach to life and college admissions give clients a competitive advantage over other applicants.
