New Apply Texas Prompts

It appears Apply Texas has changed their prompts. The essay topics are reviewed every two years. My understanding is that UT and A&M alternate who decides on the prompts, but they both collaborate.

All public and some private universities in Texas use these prompts.

The transfer topics have not changed. For Spring 2017 applicants, the prompts also have not changed.

For applicants looking to enroll Fall/Summer 2017 (students who will be seniors in Fall 2016):

Topic A: What was the environment in which you were raised? Describe your family, home, neighborhood, or community, and explain how it has shaped you as a person.

Topic B: Some students have an identity, an interest, or a talent that defines them in an essential way. If you are one of these students, then tell us about yourself.

Topic C: You’ve got a ticket in your hand – Where will you go? What will you do? What will happen when you get there?

These prompts are certainly interesting and a major departure from the previous years. Most notably is a lack of a “personal statement” that has been so important in UT’s process in recent years.

The Office of Admissions has not updated their website yet. I will provide more commentary later on, but for now, I wanted to make this announcement about a change in topics.
